Alcohol ink meets cold wax medium

I think you all know now that I love to explore and experiment! And I finally got to play with alcohol inks and cold wax and absolutely loved it! So if you don’t know what to ask as a Christmas present, ask some Alcohol inks🎁

Lightfastness

Alcohol inks are vibrant, dye-based pigments popular for their bold colors and fluid application on various surfaces. However, their lightfastness, or resistance to fading over time is said to be a problem. I asked several artists that use alcohol inks in their work and they said that with good quality inks you shouldn’t have a problem. And since we are using them sparingly, just to add some interest to the cold wax painting, I am sure it is ok. To be extra sure, you could varnish your painting with Gamvar or put a clear layer of cold wax medium over the painting.

The colours I used are from the brand Piñata and are:

  • Baja Blue

  • Rainforest

  • Rich Gold

Below you can watch my experiment with alcohol inks on a textured cold wax background, don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel, I will try to post a different video every week! 🔔
